Thermoelectric effect

 

I come across to this vey nice phenomenon , so i construct an easy structure that describe exactly what happens .

I will try to explain in simple words .Let’s begin

We will need Thermoelectric Seebeck module

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

 

and a very good cpu heat shink for Pentium , i choose Zalman CNPS5X , it is made of cooper and aluminium. I take off the fan because its 12 volt and we need 2 volt fan

Playing with Thermoelectric Seebeck module

We have two phenomenon

  • One is when we apply voltage and we get cold from one side and warm from the other.
  • And the other one is when we apply cold from one side and warm from the other and we get voltage

The first one is the Peltier effect and the other one is Seebeck effect

 

 

What is the Peltier effect?

The Peltier effect is a temperature difference created by applying a voltage between two electrodes connected to a sample of semiconductor material. This phenomenon can be useful when it is necessary to transfer heat from one medium to another on a small scale. The Peltier effect is one types of thermoelectric effect; the other two are the Seebeck effect

 

 

What is the Seebeck effect?

The Seebeck effect is a phenomenon in which a temperature difference between two dissimilar electrical conductors or semiconductors produces a voltage difference between the two substances.

When heat is applied to one of the two conductors or semiconductors, heated electrons flow toward the cooler one. If the pair is connected through an electrical circuit, direct current (DC) flows through that circuit.

The Seebeck effect is responsible for the behavior of thermocouples.

  1. Dear Sir / Madam ,

    I am very much impressed by your project of running a fan by using a seeback effect . In my country the temperature reaches to a maximum of 41 to 47 degrees centigrade during summer and it is very difficult to bear the heat . May i request you to advice me on how to develop a room cooler for room of size 11 feet x 11 feet using peltier effect . Please be kind enough to reply me at your convenience .

  2. Hi friend, as far as i can tell you, Seebeck effect is efficient and easy enough for small surfaces . For big space like a room , there must be a big research .
    The best i could tell is, you can use Seebeck effect ,derive enough current to charge some batteries and use those to operate a small size refrigerator.
    But this module i use some has some attributes.
    Hot plane and cold plane must have a difference >30 Celsius ,for output current would be enough.
    It means you have to insulate very well two planes.In other words, if sun, face the hot plane through a concentrated glass and temperature is for example , 80 Celsius, the cold plane must be maximun at 50 Celcius ,no more(in action <40 Celcius)
    You can see here some absolute maximum characteristics .In action,those are much smaller even than half

    After some tests, i gather around 20-30 Watts from one module.So you may need some more of those, maybe 10 for begging.
    In addition with thermometric you could think about aeolian energy.
    May you can done this, but i don’t know how much money you have to spent and especially many hours for research, it is not as easy as it seems. Efficiency here is absolutely your first aim.
    And remember, one significant factor for this , is to have an insulated room .
